Sydney Sabre was founded in December 2011 by a small group of nerds who were hooked on fencing. We wanted to create the first dedicated training centre for sabre in Australia, because we were sick of lugging our fencing bags around between various high school gyms. Our venue was opened in Stanmore on the 26th of May 2012, and things escalated rapidly after that.
As we’ve grown, we’ve developed a reputation as a welcoming and inclusive community and a great place to build friendships. At the end of the day, this is a game, and games exist to make people happy.
For those who get serious, we provide support, advice and mentoring for athletes, coaches and officials at every stage of their amateur fencing career. Don’t ask us about being a pro fencer, because it’s not really a thing.
We aim to promote and expand sabre fencing in Sydney, and around the world, because we think it’s a good game to learn. If you’ve been looking for something a bit different, drop us a line.
