Sydney Sabre was founded in December 2011 by a small group of people who were hooked on sabre fencing. We wanted to create the first dedicated training centre for sabre in Australia, because we wanted a place where anyone could just walk in and fence without needing an invitation or their own gear, and because we were sick of lugging our fencing bags around between various high school gyms.
We opened in Stanmore on the 26th of May 2012. Things escalated rapidly after that.
As we’ve grown, we’ve been blessed with a welcoming and inclusive community that has gathered around us. This has become a great place to build friendships.
For those who get serious, we provide support, advice and mentoring for athletes, coaches and officials at every stage of their amateur fencing career. Don’t ask us about being a pro fencer, because it’s not really a thing. Actually, do ask us, and we will try to talk you out of it. Then we will call our scary friends on various professional teams around the world to provide backup.
We want lots of people to learn how to fence sabre in Sydney and around the world, because we think it’s a good game to learn. Sabre is a game. We think it’s the best game. Games are fun, and best played with friends. If this sounds like something you might be into, come talk to us.
