These are good non-nonsense guards. They are solid, reliable, and almost indestructible (under normal combat conditions). Some people, notably experienced fencers and instructors, even prefer them over the lighter aluminium guards because they make your parries more effective.

These will never win any beauty pageants, but they do have a gritty grizzled veteran’s charm once they’ve been scratched up a bit. Which they will, because as mentioned earlier, they last practically forever.
