Grades

Fencer grades at Sydney Sabre


There is a grading system for fencers which uses patches to indicate rank
The grading system allows new students to easily identify fencers in the club who can help them and denotes particular privileges and responsibilities. Patches are worn on the lame or breeches.

 

 


Novice


•    Has passed 10 week beginner course and competition
•    Can access armoury and self-equip
•    Assists other fencers with use of scoring equipment
•    Can referee any training bout within the centre

 



Intermediate


•    Has completed 20 week novice course and competition
•    Assists less experienced fencers by providing tactical advice during bouts
•    Can access armoury, self-equip and help other fencers with equipment
•    Can referee all training bouts as well as beginner and novice competitions

 


Advanced


•    Has completed 30 week intermediate course and competition
•    Assists less experienced fencers with tactical and technical advice
•    Can access armoury, self-equip and help other fencers with equipment
•    Can referee all training bouts as well as beginner and novice competitions
•    Assists less experienced fencers with refereeing

 


Assistant instructor and instructor


•    Has completed 40 week advanced course and competition
•    Provides confident technical and tactical advice to fencers of all levels
•    Can troubleshoot and fix common equipment faults
•    Can referee all bouts and competitions within the centre
•    Instructs other fencers on refereeing
